The company
THIS is a limited company run by its two directors, Pav and Tim. They met working as individuals on the refurbishment of a house in Sandgate back in early 2014. Pav was finishing off the plastering (of the whole house) while Tim began the decorating preparations. It was late in the afternoon and Pav's assistant plasterer had to leave unexpectedly. Pav was left to trowel up the most enormous ceiling for an open-plan rear kitchen extension. Tim grasped the scale of Pav's challenge, offering to get his trowel from the van, and Pav wasn't too proud to accept Tim's help. After a manic hour or so, they succeeded in making a decent job of the ceiling. This wasn't an entirely selfless act by Tim, as he was thinking about the extra decorating prep work that might have come his way, had he not lent a hand! After keeping in touch and doing a few jobs helping each other out, they decided to team up formally and THIS Ltd was incorporated in October of that year.
Pawel Martyniuk
Pawel, or 'Pav' as he is known to most, came to England in 2005, having been invited to play rugby for Folkestone RFC, with the promise of accommodation and employment.
He worked initially in a hamper factory, moving to more technical and practical roles as his English improved, more akin to the work he had been doing in Poland on large infrastructure projects. Having brought his young family over to settle with him in England, he next worked for an electrical contractor, carrying out the building enabling works, and then for a plumbing firm, similarly making good the plumbing installations and then carrying out some bathroom and kitchen installations himself; his fanatical attention to detail when tiling emerged at this point.
After several years honing his general building skills, and with his civils experience in Poland, Pav was ready for another challenge. In 2014, when Pav and Tim met, they realised that they shared a conscientiousness and pride in their work which they felt could set them apart from the local competition
Tim Rynehart
Tim moved to Folkestone from Hackney in East London in 2008 where he had been operating first as a self-employed plasterer and then as a general builder, installing new kitchens and bathrooms, fixing doors and windows and carrying out general repairs. Looking for a better quality of life for his young family, he chose Folkestone and set up a similar business there, before joining forces with Pav six years later.
Tim enjoys the variety of what he does, from small garage conversions to whole-house renovations, working on properties from all eras. Living in the harbour area of Folkestone, Tim has enjoyed witnessing its regeneration - as well as working on it. With the varied mix of people, property and small creative businesses, it has similarities to Victoria Park in Hackney where Tim lived and worked previously.
Looking back at the projects they have worked on (see the photos in our 'Projects' section), Tim is proud of the attention that he and Pav put into the detail of their work. His goal is for every project to be the very best it can be.
